I worked on these systems at IBM. The reason they are not documented on the net is that IBM has more thorough and useful documentation on its own internal network and in it's "pubs" (copyrighted and available only to customers).

IBM also has very advanced diagnostics tools and error tracking and those were in production use before the internet came along. It makes sense to use those resources rather than the web.
