I have been kind of experimenting with using single archive pages for archive.is /.ph/.today links and then experimenting with either putting these on my github pages (and then archiving) just for more preservation purposes.
Today I wanted to try something different so I used singlefile to make a html and then make pdf file from that html and uploaded it to archive.org
I don't wish to have news articles in my github as it clutters or I am not sure how these laws might follow (there is definitely a reason as to why archive.is creator is anonymous) and so I am looking for more anonymous ways to upload (my main intentions are that archive.ph can be nice but I feel like its not validated within wikipedia/all the controversies it has and I am just experimenting with things right now)
I have also uploaded this on catbox.moe (https://files.catbox.moe/mt9sus.html) but it has plain/text content-type, does anyone know a more anonymous content-type plain/text -> html where I can upload things perhaps, I have thoughts about creating something like this (where people can give links to text .html files and I can then display the html) but I am also a bit worried that it might be used for nefarious purposes.
I am not sure what I should do actually about it, I like thinking about archiving though, but anything other than archive.org like archive.is, can only function best if they are anonymous and I am not really anonymous/intend to be.
This makes me sympathetic of them against the journalist who tried to dox them but also I kind of understand that journalist tried approaching first from a more curiosity, maybe a threat-actor model, I had done something like this once to a service because I wanted to know if govt.'s would be able to catch them or not (they had a reddit proxy) and I found that they had their opsec secure and I was really impressed but I sometimes wonder, if the journalist also did something like this and the archive.is owner felt like it was a threat to archive and decided to ddos and all the things that followed, I sort of understand both the perspectives, so it just makes me sad as how this ended up folding up.
(This comment might've been more relevant within the archive.is drama hackernews thread but I think that its long gone and I was still forming my opinion on all of this which clearly has some nuance)
I really like f-droid in this case because I can be so much more sure about using an app there than from play-store
> Play store is the largest distributor of spyware and viruses for Android.
I think all companies are taking part in somewhat of a double-speak. Meta is lobbying for child safety and so many other things.
I feel like they really can't come up loud and say what exact reasons they are doing this (for locking down Android) and thus have to use this as an excuse.
It's all smokescreens and mirror to a certain degree.
They are (primarily) doing it because a few governments asked / forced them to. THe scams you see in the iPhone-heavy US are very different than the scams you see in other places.
I wish if there was some regulation which could force companies who scrape for (profit) to reveal who they are to the end websites, many new AI company don't seem to respect any decision made by the person who owns the website and shares their knowledge for other humans, only for it to get distilled for a few cents.
Good project but I wish something like this can exist for proton mail, I have made some puppeteer scripts which can hook up to proton docs.
But Proton is really doing some great disservice to not having a public api for their docs.
I can imagine it being used for anonymous comments page for webpages etc.
I am not sure if there is something that you can do about it though given that the fundamental issue of this is caused by proton not having an api whereas I think google docs does have API.
Oh it gets worse than that, the money which caused all of this by OpenAI was taken from Japanese banks at cheap interest rates (by softbank for the stargate project), and the Japanese Banks are able to do it because of Japanese people/Japanese companies and also the collateral are stocks which are inflated by the value of people who invest their hard earned money into the markets
So in a way they are using real hard earned money to fund all of this, they are using your money to basically attack you behind your backs.
But what if it becomes "good enough", that for most intents and purposes, small models can be "good enough"
There are some people here/on r/localllama who I have seen run some small models and sometimes even run multiple of them to solve/iterate quickly and have a larger model plug into it and fix anything remaining.
This would still mean that larger/SOTA models might have some demand but I don't think that the demand would be nearly enough that people think, I mean, we all still kind of feel like there are different models which are good for different tasks and a good recommendation is to benchmark different models for your own use cases as sometimes there are some small models who can be good within your particular domain worth having within your toolset.
Because the true goal is AGI, not just nice little tools to solve subsets of problems. The first company which can achieve human level intelligence will just be able to self-improve at such a rate as to create a gigantic moat
> The first company which can achieve human level intelligence will just be able to...
They say prostitution is the oldest industry of all. We know how to achieve human-level intelligence quite well. The outstanding challenge is figuring out how to produce an energy efficient human-level intelligence.
I am so sorry that you had to go through this tragic event, Here's a hug my friend, that must've been incredibly tough on you, I am not religious but I know that She is in Heaven and watching you from above and she will always be within your heart and all the cherished memories you had together.
I have written a comment previously about it recently (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47548393) but essentially, I believe that the more tooling/projects within this space, the better.
I have had an idea recently where I can use something like https://github.com/nemasu/asmttpd (assembly webserver) created by nemasu (they are on HN with same name) and deploying this under container from:scratch or gvisor on a single Virtual machine to have thousands of isolated git still on a more safer degree.
Asmttpd has made me gone into a rabbit hole of finding minimalist ways to create web servers but I don't know asm/low-level. I kinda wish to Try Zig for a project like this but I have been unable to really get the feels of running a web server on anything low level (Rust requires lots of deps etc.), I really love golang for web servers but I am nowadays allured by the idea of even more lower level language.
also for git, Github has been going on a meteoric decline which also makes me want to wish for more git viewer alternatives
I was going to say Young child (17 here) but then I read the article and realized that I am not the under-2 young child that they had meant :)
When I was going through something of a downward spiral, I decided to pick up to help other people in support groups online to find some purpose (it also used to go both way in support sometimes)
So when I was been part of some support groups online I once saw a kid as low as 13 year old in age who ended up using AI for nefarious purposes to say the least and there was simply nothing that I could do about it but be for them.
I have seen people my age in discussions say this line to me that "they have never told this to anyone but chatgpt"
You all might have to trust me when I say this, but I definitely feel like AI psychosis where people treat AI as their best friend is something which might become more normal than previously thought.
Essentially, it also talks about a deeper thing to be honest, I am going to be honest here, There feels a big divide in dating scene and hormones in general and how girls/boys are percieved from a younger age. Even young people feel the concept of wanting to feel loved by someone like a girlfriend but the dating scene just feels so weird-ed out, my generation included.
I have to be brutally honest here, I myself don't know if I am going to find a girlfriend right now, but my elder cousins have given me some reassurance
It all feels very much transactional to a certain degree right now, from both sides, and it feels like both genders are converging to the idea of the ultimate form of transaction which are these chat bots.
I am sure that a lot of that might go the same way with friendships.
I do feel a bit like coding/a lot of fun-ness out of life is also like this, quantified, measured, transactional (posting for social-media?) [as I wonder if I am writing this comment for hackernews karma or relevant discussion talking points..]
This feels to me the most irreversible consequence because it might be hard for the generation (myself included) to see value in non-measurable things as everything has to be measured and transactional-ized.
And also there is a lot of toxicity bred in my opinion from this generation which really just gets passed around from one place to another. It's hard to explain perhaps as to what I mean exactly, but there feels to be a peer pressure which happens in doing toxic stuff and that toxic stuff has become more de-sensitized and worse because of the social medias/once again that everything has to be measured talking point.
I would like for humanity to be more nuanced and less measured but more varied (grey rather than black or white) but I feel like that there is enough noise on the internet that maybe even this ends up becoming noise and I am not sure if anyone who might benefit from reading this actually does end up reading it.
I would love a discussion about it from the more experienced generations as to what they might feel but these are just my 2 cents, maybe some parents who are raising their kids.
It definitely felt a bit scary to me during my time helping people that people trusted me a random child myself, more than they could trust their parents. So if any parent is reading this, I suggest taking some genuine interest in their kids lives as I have felt as if that they are just waiting to be talked to given. It truly is all so nuanced, there can be no problem within someone's lives but they do something negative (drugs/self-harm) and create a self problem. They can break the cycle but they are dependent on the cycle.
I really don't know if I am within any position to suggest something to a parent here though but from the people I've helped, sometimes it isn't even their faults and they try their best but they are just kept hidden things from them.
But also, the most common thread was/is an abusive household. Fights really impact the children lives and I have seen people wish to leave that household that they get into some of the issues that I mentioned, a safe place.
maybe I suggest spending time with children from young age as if they are their own person with feelings/thoughts for the most part and spending time with them through Minecraft or any game or movie together and to try to be how they might project a more mature elder brother to be that they can share things.
This got a bit long so sorry about that. Have a nice day but I would be happy to know if this might help anybody.
Also y'all parents deserve a hug, parenting is definitely quite hard. Y'all are definitely trying your best. There really doesn't feel to be some magic cheat code to it but parenting itself feels to me a bit magic.
