So, I run a company called https://www.localhalo.com/ it builds local communities a bit like discord/slack but all geo-fenced.

We found that social utility is how you solve a LOT of these issues. If someone is going to be negative on your platform then give them the 'action' instead for that pain.

In local this is normally an issue with a neighbour, something for the HOA or something for Local Gov't. Just make them slackbot-esque buttons/commands. Give reacting features for others to support and you've turned decenters into your most active patrons.

The trick with social utility is only giving access to solutions that better everyone. People are lazy and if they can find a single way to do 80/20 of their community wants it normally produces good-actors.

You should post this as a Show HN when you're ready. I think the community here would be interested to discuss it. See https://news.ycombinator.com/showhn.html and the tips at https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=22336638.

If you want, send a draft to hn@ycombinator.com and I'll try to help you with feedback similar to how I help YC startups with their launches (https://news.ycombinator.com/launches - that's a YC-only thing but Show HNs are similar). Just realize that I can't necessarily reply quickly. The inbox can be brutal.

Same offer goes for anyone who wants some advice about how to present their work to HN.

I think it's a really compelling and quite funny article but to actually make a difference you need the translation. You need the side-by-side comparison and I think people would sit up and go 'ah' and it will change hiring for them.

Can someone write this with the real-world situation so 'brown' isn't a guess at [framework/language/methodology]

Interesting idea, however how will this differ from creating a facebook like page which hides the content like people do already?!

I think there is also user experience to factor in here. When I visit a bands page, take blur for a hypothetical example, I've already decided I like the band. When offered something for free to like them I've already make a concious decision to support them.

For your idea to be successful it will need to be embedded into sites where people already have engagement.

As a stand alone page it just won't work, unless you want to allow it to be branded per page, but that carries too much overhead.

Go for contracts with EMI or Time Warner and get your 'like > reward' product on hundreds of sites

The embedable widget/button for publishers goes in this direction, but I think the full download page is important. I want everyone to recognize that Likes and Tweets are really valuable, so valuable that publishers would give out free art and content to receive that social buzz.

In comparison to Facebook pages, Color links are more portable. You can easily include it in a status update also, rather than landing pages (which necessarily include the logic to check for Likes). This is especially relevant if publishers switch to the Timeline, which makes it much harder to do "Like gating". See http://techcrunch.com/2012/02/29/death-of-the-facebook-defau...

I think you have a valid point but from the yes/no discussion that is happening here do you have any recommendations for alternatives? in terms of best practices for Flask App Structure

Interesting question.

As someone who is working full-time and working on 2 start-ups (one with far more commitment) I know what it is to take one too much as an entrepreneur.

The first thought is a warning! Burnout! If you choose to go full-time and a startup you're going to hit a wall. Naturally if you do more than one startup you just hit it faster...

So the issue is commitment. My advise would be to divide your week into blocks of commitment for each project. In my case Mon,Wed,Fri,Sun using 4 hour blocks per dsy for startup A. Tues, Thurs of 4 hour blocks on startup B (Saturday is a much needed recovery day, normally resulting in a much deserved hangover).

Another consideration is how you work...

For example I am an 80/80 person. I work 80% and play 80%, the important part is that i'm never 100% at one time so have that buffer to avoid burnout... you have to find a balance between the minimum required effort to have a successful company and your own personal space (even work-a-holics sleep, generally on the keyboard)

As you have experience with startups i'm surprised you've so easily embraced another two projects. However that intimates that you know how to divide you time between them... It would be interesting to see a blog post from you in 6 months to discover if you were able manage both and how the progression/success of each respectively influenced your commitment in them.

yes I'm going to write a blog post about the progress. second startup is not a big idea, it's a ui/ux design bureau. The reason why I get an office and empleyees for that rather than working online, I need professional web design/developer team for my startups. Having a team, made me think why not to open a design studio?! And also sometimes I get big orders like website of State oil company Azerbaijan Republic. They pay for a website 50-120k euros. So I founded A ui/ux design (which I am expert on) bureau. My third startup is a software, which also will need some team to develop it. By starting second and third, I thought that I already automated the first one, which was not true and my Project Manager cannot handle with the issues like I did. Everyday he asks stupid questions and takes my time which make me tired of it.

Melon Card.... I just signed up with a random email and it would allow me to remove the details for that email 'joe.doe@yourwebsite.com'... using your software as long as I did the captcha I could remove records for anyone's email as long as you can find them (the recommendation makes that easy)... you NEED to include verifying the email address before you can perform actions!!
