Question about that, wouldn't packaging be an issue unless you really shrunk the engine size? I thought that's what makes LS swaps into planes so interesting because you get a fair amount of power in a small package.

You're right, packaging would definitely be a challenge. The cylinder head would need to be low profile, conformal exhaust headers, dry sumped, and put all the plumbing you can (including the turbo and wastegate) behind the block. Maybe it’s not feasible, but it sure would be an interesting puzzle to try!

The peeps I've talked to who've done LS swaps seemed more interested in the economic, technological, and fuel economy leaps made versus the certified air-cooled default choices rather than the power, but YMMV...


Microsoft can really get it wrong, but getting streaming wrong after Stadia and Luna would be very, very impressive.

I disagree, for me desktop (K)Ubuntu's 6 month release cycle works great. Feels like a nice balance between stability and freshness.

Your sales team can totally utilize a free plan, while communicating with the customer. But a free sign up from the website, without sales person contact, is something we only had negative experience with, so stopped doing it. (Talking about B2B, B2C might be different)

Paul Hudson is the main guy right now, although his stuff is still a little advanced for me. Sean Allen on youtube does great video updates and tutorials.


In other disciplines, yes. Very common to hear it in mechanical or aerospace engineering, for example. They'll say "codes" to refer to multiple programs or "a code" to refer to a single program. It's amusing, when I was in the field I just went with it.


Many of the replies completely missed the part about Nvidia, sigh.

I unfortunately still see a lot of Proton bug reports that don’t repro on AMD cards. Hoping that improves soon, I’m sure Valve would love to tell hardware makers that Nvidia GPUs are supported.


I've been using 30s and 40s just fine with both nvidia and nvidia-open so every time I see this I don't really understand what card or game we're talking about.

On the other hand when I tried a 6xx0 XT I always ran into an infamous "ring gfx timeout" GPU crash with certain applications on WINE [0]. Ended up giving that card to a cousin.

I have an nvidia card on catchyos with catchyos proton and I have not ran into a single game that does not run, well ok some only walk, but that's also a problem on AMD.

I am excluding games that rely on a kernelmode anticheat.


Games I've played on my Arch Linux desktop with a 4090 in the past few months: Clair Obscur, Disco Elysium, Outer Worlds, Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk, Dispatch, Silent Hill f, FFVII Rebirth. I haven't had a single issue with any of these games. What games do you think will struggle? I can give them a shot if I own then and let you know how they do.


I have been using Nvidia on Linux for years and am able to run 95%+ of my library on Steam.


That’s awesome! But not everyone’s library is the same, so YMMV. I regularly see problems with flight sims that are Nvidia-specific, for example.


Not seeing any issues with my NVidia card.

Jai is just a C-like with manual memory management etc.

I mean something that is divorced from hardware and just focuses on gameplay logic; let the engine continue to be in C++/Rust/whatever.


Cool project, but I'd use the first mode to look for hidden cameras at Airbnbs!
