I had my fair share of IBM and Lenovo laptop repairs. They were OK, but far from best. Firmware was locked to certain (expensive) RAM modules and HDDs. Expensive motherboard replacement on first sign of troubles...
ThinkPads had some nice things, like the keyboard, but durability was never one of them. Whenever I open a laptop I still do this weird hand dance in order to try to use the minimal amount of force required. An habit I acquired after a handful of broken hinges in the 90s...
It would be nice to include some context, like was driver on road or pedestrian walkway, were they wearing a helmet, how fast and safely they were driving...
Unicycling is nothing extraordinary that would deserve prize, pizza delivery guys do that all the time. I live in busy tourist city and I am very tired of inconsiderate unicycling drivers!
Different reaction from men can be explained in what would follow in case of crash. Men get far less help when injured. And if driver gets injured, men are expected to step up and provide help!
I can't imagine delivering food on a regular unicycle - it's a lot of work.
The linked article was from 2007. He was definitely talking about a regular unicycle, and I doubt speed was a factor. The "unsafe" perception from others would be from the inherent wobbling associated with someone learning how to ride - it takes a while to get really smooth.
That is just plain untrue. They deport criminal migrants or migrants that are not under international asylum law. And we are talking about few thousands per year.
> I bet those poor people are also disproportionately non-white!
Yes, simply based on the fact that only non-European citizens can be deported. But what is interesting is that they are also disproportionately non-east-asian.
Not necessarily. Many refugees are from Ukraine, they can freely move to Germany, work there and apply for social benefits. I think Germany really needs similar rules for other countries, particularly in Africa and Middle East!
That would prove they are not far right once for all!
What made me disable it was some issue in Linux network stack, with ipv6 broadcast, on by default, exploitable to root execution.
For me it is yet another complex service that I do not need, and that should not be exposed to network. Ipv4 network stack code is far smaller, simpler and way more tested over decades!
Another irony is Capek did not really liked R.U.R. He was great author and journalist, read his War with the Newts (1936). RUR was his early theater game, it is a bit silly and has big plot holes.. Yet somehow it is his most known work.
> when you look at those taped-up batteries, you see that they are refurbished
EV cars and buses will be like that in couple of years. Look how old busted Toyotas are maintained. Look how MTA maintains subway network, some parts are literally 70 years old!
> introduction of a 2% wealth tax on people with more than $10m
Super rich billionaires at this level control goverment spending. They can also hide their assets around the globe.
So this seems like a great way for billionaires to increase their wealth, at expense of "upper middle class" who can not do this. (honestly $10m is not that much)
Panasonic Toughbook and Toshiba were better.
