TBH reading the first few words of that section I was definitely expecting it to continue "so we used Claude to rewrite Hypothesis in Rust..." so that was quite a surprise!

It's on the agenda! We definitely want to rewrite the Hegel core server in rust, but not as much as we wanted to get it working well first.

My personal hope is that we can port most of the Hypothesis test suite to hegel-rust, then point Claude at all the relevant code and tell it to write us a hegel-core in rust with that as its test harness. Liam thinks this isn't going to work, I think it's like... 90% likely to get us close enough to working that we can carry it over the finish line. It's not a small project though. There are a lot of fiddly bits in Hypothesis, and the last time I tried to get Claude to port it to Rust the result was better than I expected but still not good enough to use.


To put it on the record: my position is current models can't get us there, and neither can the next iteration of models, but in two model iterations this will be worth doing. There's a lot of fiddly details in Hypothesis that are critical to get right. You can get a plausible 80% port with agents today but find they've structured it in a way to make it impossible to get to 100%.

But why is it useful to be able to defer conflict resolution?

I saw in a parallel comment thread people discussing merge commit vs rebase workflow - rebase gives cleaner git history but is a massive pain having to resolve conflicts on every commit since current branch diverged instead of just once on the final result with merge commit.

Is it that? Deferred conflict resolution allows you to rebase but only resolve conflicts at the end?


Delayed conflict resolution in jj is valuable when you're rebasing a long chain of commits. If I rebase a chain of 10 commits and each of the commits has a conflict, I'm stuck in conflict resolution mode until I fix all 10 conflicts. Maybe something else came up, or maybe I got tired of doing conflict resolution and want to do something else. Git's answer is to finish or abandon.

Also, in jj it's pretty easy to rebase a lot of stuff all at once, giving you even more opportunities to create conflicts. Being able to delay resolution can be easier.


Deferred conflict resolution is amazing in jj because I may never return to some of the branches that are in conflict and therefore might never bother resolving them.

I rebase entire trees of commits onto main daily. I work on top of a dev-base commit and it has all kinds of anonymous branches off it. I rebase it and all its subbranches in 1 command and some of those sub branches might now be in a conflicted state. I don’t have to resolve them until I need to actually use those commits.

dev-base is an octopus merge of in-flight PRs of mine. When work is ready to be submitted it moves from being a descendent of dev-base to a parent of dev-base.

Rebasing all my PRs and dev-base and all its descendents is 1 command. Just make sure my @ is a descendent of dev-base and then run: jj rebase -d main



I think the byline "builds complete Godot games" is rubbing people up the wrong way, when really the sell here is that it helps you build Godot games with Claude Code

That was my feeling - more than 'owning' uv etc I could see this as being about getting people onboard who had a proven track record delivering developer tooling that was loved enough to get wide adoption

I have been using this a lot lately and ... it's good.

Sometimes annoying - you can't really fire and forget (I tend to regret skipping discussion on any complex tasks). It asks a lot of questions. But I think that's partly why the results are pretty good.

The new /gsd:list-phase-assumptions command added recently has been a big help there to avoid needing a Q&A discussion on every phase - you can review and clear up any misapprehensions in one go and then tell it to plan -> execute without intervention.

It burns quite a lot of tokens reading and re-reading its own planning files at various times, but it manages context effectively.

Been using the Claude version mostly. Tried it in OpenCode too but is a bit buggy.

They are working on a standalone version built on pi.dev https://github.com/gsd-build/gsd-2 ...the rationale is good I guess, but it's unfortunate that you can't then use your Claude Max credits with it as has to use API.
