I'm interested in what types of media you consume that's helped to shape your worldview. The idea that living in an industrialized nation in 2023 isn't living in a functional society, seems very foreign to me. Which nation and which time period would you choose to live in over an industrialized nation in 2023?
I'd choose stone-age Europe. Die as a tribal warlord or die trying, that's life actually worth living. Being a neutered and fake modern human being even with a lot of printer money is still nothing.
It’s too late and the problem isn’t even with the foreign buyers anyway. It never has been. Much like complaining about zoning, It’s a dumb misdirection play that people fall for every time.
I agree with GP that foreign buyers are mostly a scapegoat, but unlike GP, I do believe zoning is the main issue. Giving zoning power to local politics will always end up with the same issue. Rich homeowners voting for board members who pass laws which limit supply, resulting in the value of their assets going up. It's the same issue all over the world. Single detached houses do not belong in cities.
