First time i've had to enable "reduce transparency" on iOS.

I have near perfect vision, btw.

I have astigmatic halation¹ so my phone is set to ‘light mode’. Despite this I'm seeing iOS use white on black or grey in multiple places, notably including notifications. (And in one case, white on very light gray.)

I think 2ys is the "been here long enough to show commitment and deliver something sizeable, but now ready for something new" period of time. 3yrs seems a little too long to stick at something to signal the above.

I think you're right and that two Christmases and two Easters and almost 700 days is enough time, but there is the perspective out there that the 2-year mark is when you've finally learned enough to be productive and the 3rd year is when you're actually running on all cylinders.

- disable iCloud - disable any apps that sync via iCloud - backup phone to local machine and enable encryption (doesn't have to be macOS) - use something like PGP to re-encrypt the encrypted backup file generated - store encrypted backup file in a way that provides the durability guarantees you want

Boils down to, don't use iCloud - making the assumption that Germany and the rest of the EU countries aren't far behind the UK in authoritarianism and apple will remove ADP from those regions also.

I think it's being overhyped by those who fall into either of these two categories; - financial incentive to do so - feel the barrier to entry for "coding" is low enough for them to "build"

Have you "de-apple'd" your life in anyway so that you're at least not helping to finance the illegal app store shit?

I’m rotating things out of walled-garden mega ecosystems and into e.g. Proton.

It’s not done in a day but I’m on track to finish in 2025.

Nice, thanks. Making similar strides myself. Moved over to a Framework machine (which has been surprisingly pleasant) with Linux (also not too bad as a desktop OS in 2024) - coming from an M1 Pro. Photo's is my current sticking point though, do I really push everything into Google photos...

I had a R2 also and was thoroughly disappointed with it from an e-reader perspective. Not easy or straightforward getting files on the device and so few file formats supported.

That's interesting, i've just switched to using one and haven't noticed any discomfort, yet.

Are you laying your wrist flat when using it? I could see maintaining a fully pronated posture leading to wrist aches over time. I try and keep my hand as neutral as possible when using it, in realist i'd estimate my wrist angle off the desk to be ~45deg, then I use my middle and ring fingers on the pad.

Found this one the other day, Jugo.io/x

I fell into the trap of watching some clickbait'y YT videos and this one [1] stood out, with a specific demonstration of solving an AoC problem from the 2023 problem set.

This is a great point, one i'd not considered.

People realise the AI capability is limited by the quality of the data used for training, so work out ways to collect better quality data and keep pushing on the LLM architecture as a path to AGI.
