I stayed in TO for a year back in 07. The PATH was my favourite feature of the city. Part of it was under construction and, late at night, entirely free from other pedestrians. Felt like I was alone in a dystopian sci-fi horror film. Wonderful, terrifying memories.
The introduction of The Groke absolutely terrified me when I was younger. I put it up there with the Xenomorph in terms of a mysterious, capable, superior foe.
Merlin's podcasts, particularly Roderick on the Line and the amazing Reconcilable Differences with John Siracusa, are amongst my favourite things to listen to.
It's perhaps a more... difficult listen, but Do By Friday has a special place in my listening. It's perhaps the least about technology, but the most about people and what this sort of Wisdom is about. It's hard to recommend because it's changed so much over the years and it's mercurial over weeks and events, but it's similar to Roderick in being a very raw and rambly show, but more about Merlin and Alex.
That logic doesn't isn't really iron clad since people could also be buying the 16GB because it is the cheapest version of the shiny new iPhone they want. If you want to use iOS, you're either paying for the base 16GG or paying a lot of money for the higher storage tier, there isn't a cheaper option.
The problem is most consumers don't realize what they're getting themselves into. Apple will make a profit on those who upgrade knowing better, but many won't.
When grandma needs to learn how to manage storage, this is going to make everybody's life harder, from people who do tech support to application developers who need to rethink how they use application storage space.
Literally, the only player who benefits here is Apple. And even that is disputable due to the problems it will cause to iPhone app developers who now need to be extremely cautious about storage use.
