It never ceases to amaze me how much people love to tell other people what to do even when it has absolutely nothing to do with them.

I think sports gambling is stupid and has largely ruined sports for me. Most people I know though seem to really love it, gamble completely responsibly and seem to enjoy sports they did not enjoy previously.

Unfortunately, there is no story to click on without some kind of moral outrage or "mistake" that the "smart" people need to correct. Especially appealing if it can bent into some kind of political bullshit narrative .

Fashion is for sure not one of mine.

I pretty much only have shorts and tshirts that could all be replaced on amazon for $100

1 pair of jeans and 1 nice shirt, neither that I have worn yet this year. I do have a nice suite but even to a wedding or funeral I would probably just wear the jacket, shirt and jeans.

Beyond that I just don't care. There is such freedom that comes with being able to replace my entire wardrobe that I actually wear on amazon in the next 5 minutes for $150.

In the same regard, I don't notice people's clothes either. Not only do I not notice if someone is wearing something expensive vs cheap but the thought wouldn't even cross my mind to try to do some kind of wardrobe valuation.

I would suspect people really into fashion highly overestimate the degree the average person is into fashion.

I suspect this is in general across the US.

I have lost 35lbs so far this year and it is pretty shocking the health benefits of not over eating good tasting food.

I think we all know this too but are collectively in denial because it is so boring eating chicken breast, broccoli and mustard yet again as I am right now instead of the awesome tasting dish from the incredible restaurants we have all over.

That is even with not drinking, not smoking and going to the gym for years.

People don't just want their cake and eat it too they want their cigarettes/vapes and smoke them too, a six pack and drink it too, a pizza to eat before the cake, all while only abstaining from physical activity.

Great stuff. Network Backboning with Noisy Data paper that this is based on is even more interesting IMO. https://www.michelecoscia.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/201...

Bill Joy - Why The Future Doesn't Need Us - 4/1/2000

Basically, the same article but much more negative.

Exactly. I am full remote and this is the only thing I miss about the office.

The social aspects that have nothing to do with working or productivity. What comes with that though are massive distractions that don't exist remote.

I suspect the productive workers are much more productive remote and the unproductive workers are equally unproductive. The big difference is that the unproductive workers don't have to pretend to be working like they do in the office but at least they aren't such a distraction to the productive workers.

We simply do a terrible job at educating people about how much the past sucked and instead do the opposite with ridiculous Goethe like romanticism of the past.

Never mind that Goethe was the eldest of 7 children with only one sibling not dead as a child. Then going on to have have 5 children of his own. 4 that also happened to die as young children.

Modern people are so clueless we literally take the lack of dead children completely granted.

The type of person who writes this cultural word salad slop I suspect has an IQ of 100, thinks it is 140 and can't figure out what is wrong with the modern world that they are not above average in their output.

I would even question how creative a person is who thinks that way.

All artist are indebted to their influences. It is interesting to me growing up how music artists would gush over their influences. There was almost pride in a diverse and wide influence set.

Led Zeppelin literally stole parts from old blues songs for some of their most popular songs.

Anyone who has learned an instrument started out playing other people's music.

No one considers themselves an "artist" because they can play chopsticks on the piano. AI lets anyone play chopsticks. It means absolutely nothing. The "art" is then in taking it way past that.

I have been out of audio for a long time but this sounds crazy.

Have owned FS1R and DX11, made my own FM synths in reaktor but I would still rate FM7/FM8 the greatest of all FM synths. There has just never been a better interface to program FM. In the same way I would probably rate the FS1R as one of the all time worst FM synths and I do enjoy a synth that is not easy to program for the uniqueness.

Unless it is vaporware now I would just get FM8.

fm8 is still around and i have it but unfortunately on higher dpi screens its quite frustrating to navigate the ui

I have worked at a few banks and this is all standard practice. Part of the business model practically revolves around creating a cult like environment about how great it is to work at the bank while they systematically underpay/overwork.

You will either get burned out and never work in banking again, start hopping between banks to get an actual good raise while risk can never be pinned on you or be like most bankers with just doing nothing and repeat the cult like banking mantras because you have to constantly convince yourself of these things that are so at odd with reality.

The sooner you can get out of banking the better.
