If they waited for every customer to enjoy the unboxing experience then the line would have barely moved as everyone would be joygasming.
On the real.
The employees are trying to rush through the mass. They have the setup the phone, activate and etc for the account that they don't have the luxury of time for you to enjoy the unboxing experience. It is unfortunate for those who enjoy it - sure. But it is what it is and business is business. There are a hundreds of customers waiting and want to play with their phone and so they have to blitz through to fulfill every customer.
The future is going to be quite crazy as 3D printing becomes cheaper, higher quality. Pretty soon you will be able to print out products from the comfort of your house without going to the store. We will probably start seeing some crazy Intellectual property law cases come up now as people will start designing very similar 3D models around existing products from large companies. It is bound to spark a controversy allowing the consumer now to be their own producer. Much akin to the internet and how it allows anyone to be their own producer.
Kickstarter should rather simply put projects on 'hold' and have a dispute ticket of sorts similar to that of ebay for people to sort it out and figure it out.
In the end of the day it has to be black and white however.. one or the other... the question now is who that side will be? The kickstarter raiser or an outside third party?
It is a great shame to see such a project go down like this and I hope kickstarter is taking notice and not let something slip like this.
I'm not as knowledgable with 3d printing - but have heard of Makerbot before. Anyone know how this compares to Replicator #1? Is there improved fidelity? (i.e. less print lines?)
The replicator 1 was pretty kickass when they had a demo @ Disrupt SF, but had some noticeable lines.
"A vanishing middle class." This is becoming too true. Especially with the middle class receiving the least amount of help. The poor get free boosts, the rich get breaks. The middle class work horse gets beat the hardest.
"Liberal arts? Out of luck."
STEM is the driving futurue for our country. There should be more incentives for students who pursue STEM related degrees to attract the new next generation. There hasn't been enough of a push with this in our education system. Instead we are still allowing students choose what they please without any real world knowledge that their degree path makes a huge impact on their job outcome. I think we do a poor job on that.
