Goodness I just saw your comment. I don't know how to upvote? Does this news list work like reddit?

Of course it's not only exclusive to tech startups...the word 'hack' has been commonly used to describe any Macguyver-esque resourcefulness for quite some time now.

I think non-tech corporations would benefit tremendously from more idea brainstorming 'hackathon' events -- which wouldn't exactly favor the upper echelons of management in their rigid roles (within even more rigid management structures). The whole point of any type of hackathon is to come up with disruptive results, which shake up product lines or the heart of the product itself, among other things.

I believe corporations can achieve this by keeping management smaller and more flexible, with the goal of being more open-minded towards new or radical ideas. Only then can these ideas be implemented, and rapidly so.

Could it be that most businesses don't know how to harness Facebook properly? Targeting a subset of people on a massive social network requires skill and finesse. The knee-jerk reaction by many big businesses is to go wide with their marketing approach, whereas, these days, marketing to a niche crowd is the recommended approach...

I agree, however, that ads getting lost in a massive data cache is a problem...

Facebook is becoming more unpopular among other groups, as well. I am tempted to say that everyone is getting sick of Facebook. Many of my friends now have a love/hate relationship with it, trying to make a higher quality experience by shaving down their friends' lists or just deleting their profile altogether. I feel Facebook burnout as well...it's this thing I have to do compulsively, which offers no joy, yet it's where everyone is, so I don't really have a choice but to go there to keep in touch with everyone...and I think that is the general sentiment these days at least among my mid-30s peer group...many of whom don't bother checking their page anymore...

I'm curious if that is a function of how Facebook works or if that is what naturally happens when you see everyone you know online doing fun things (which would apply to every social network of that size).

Not sure, but I believe in the law of diminishing returns...after a while, a human being gets used to something, and eventually sick of it after repeated exposure.

It's a shame that even after women have attained such lofty positions in society, they are dogged by such damaging and carelessly thrown phrases. As a woman of color myself, I have experienced the same sort of sexism, and at times, racism (sexism easily prevails). I suppose the only silver to this is that when I succeed, it will be that much sweeter.

Reposting on Facebook. This is great. I've always wanted to do this on Amazon but found I had this great inertia in finding out just how to go about doing it. It seemed like a big hassle, but it really isn't. This article simplified it.

Hi there, I've been meditating on and off since I was 15 (I'm now 34). When I was younger I meditated very regularly, and now I try to get in 20 minutes about 3-4 times a week. I've noticed that when I meditate, the next day goes a lot better, in terms of mental clarity, peace, productivity, emotional stability, and the ability to grasp the subtleties of my own intuition. I longed for a guru when I was a teen, and by the age of 21, I found him, or rather, he found me. I followed him to his Himalayan ashram and had many wonderful spiritual experiences there, which were more than merely coincidental. I'm a healthy skeptic so of course nothing mattered to me more than the direct perception of the truths they talk about in meditation. I have experienced a few of these over the years, but they are difficult to attain and the toughest thing is that in order to experience them, you cannot want them. These experiences sort of play 'hard to get' - it's hard to explain, but I think the Universe designed it that way so we aren't attached to such experiences and we don't hanker after them -- to Hindus, that desire destroys the purpose of meditation, which "should" be done for its own sake.

I am currently reading Transcendence by Dr. Norman E. Rosenthal and wish to get involved with a TM practice once I am situated in the bay area. As with anything, meditation is a practice and I've found that only when I sustain it, do I experience sustained benefits.

My adi guru, or first guru, was my father, and he gave me my first mantra, which I repeated for 7 years. After that, I took initiation from my guru; however, I still repeat the mantra that my father gave me. Now I can get into a meditative state rather quickly without using the tool of mantra to get there, but some days it's still a struggle.

I wish you well on your journey, which is 100% inward with meditation! If you have any questions feel free to email me at reel india at yahoo dot com

Of course sales are poor...we are so used to paying a premium for the cool factor, and for quality (debatable), why would we go for plastic? It's largely (if not completely) a case of perception here. I just got off the phone with Apple because I need a new laptop. After tallying up a 15" Mac Book Pro with Retina Display, 3-year Apple Care, and a few other necessary extras, I'll be paying about $3k out the door. I wince as I write this but it's worth every penny for me...if I'm at Apple and I'm already being gouged, why not just get the best thing they have?

Comes down to how inelastic I am at that price point as well. Personally, if I'm going to pay $739 for a 5c here in Australia, I might as well fork out an extra $130 to 'future proof' myself with the 5s. I get the feeling that Apple still needs to get the price of the 5c right.

A reminder is good, but an entire website for this purpose alone - with data culled from the WHO? And four people to create it?? Is there any other purpose of the site other than to remind us that our aged parents are nearer to their graves? I tried to find the site pithy but it was equal parts depressing, simplistic and oddly cute. I looked around for other stuff to click on, but there was nothing. Am I missing something?
