The editorializing on “smoking is bad” is moot—we all know it and it’s not the point.

Why don’t we just ban drinking altogether then? And while we’re at it, if you’re irritated about something perhaps just keep it to yourself. Society doesn’t have time for discontent or deviation from the norm.

Good lord.

There is a massive gulf between "deny the drunk unruly passenger boarding" and "BAN BOOZE".

I realize that but I was following that author’s other posts and they just seem into restricting the rights of everyone to prevent disorderly conduct. So where does it stop??

It was a “throwaway” so I suppose I shouldn’t expect actual discourse.

I can still see the Iran flag in all of its unaltered glory here in the US. I guess they missed the memo?

Afghanistan =/= Iran

Not everybody knows everything. Would you be so kind to share what's up with the Iranian flag? It's seems interesting. I happen to not know much about it and I love when people bring up some interesting curiosities here (sometimes unfortunately obscured by sarcasm or other convolutions)

The Iranian protestors have brought back the old flag, featuring the lion and the sun at center, and often make shows of removing the Islamic State’s symbol from the center of the current “official” flag (the word Allah in Persian calligraphy).

The U.S. Soccer Federation tweeted about Iran, intentionally using a pre-Islamic-Revolution version of the country's flag. (Or, one might imagine, what it hoped will be the post-Islamic-Revolution version.)

It was front page shit for two days, sorry. I think others explained it well enough but I still insist that it was perfectly relevant.

I can only assume that this is a 3rd rail of sorts for “Western” types who seem to be 100% anti-Iran lately, even though I remember about half a decade ago the same sorts of people were pro-Iran when it came to giving back their money that would eventually be used to fund terrorism, but would love to take Russia’s money for doing the same thing.

Never forget that Biden fistbumped MbS.

Iran and Afghanistan are different countries.

Sorry but if you put 10% of your net worth into BlockFi you didn't fully understand the risks. I feel bad for anyone who lost money (a few grand here) but this was all akin to a trip to the casino for me and my expectations were set accordingly.

That is strange and interesting as it seems counter-intuitive since a B.A. in say, physics, is less rigorous than a B.S. from a pure physics/mathematics standpoint.

That depends a lot on the issuing university. At some of the medieval university, e.g. Cambridge, the only undergraduate degree is a BA, regardless of subject. Likely because the naming of the degree predates the modern usage of the word science.

Few would argue that a BA in physics (which would actually be in Natural Sciences) from Cambridge is "less rigorous"

Cambridge and Oxford and a few others also then grant students an MA more or less automatically¹ a handful of years after graduation², a process sometimes referred to jocularly as the "MA for FA"!

Sir you owe me a new pince nez because mine just shot across the room.

Sure, that's "old-fashioned" as a friend once told me (who was a Rhodes scholar.) At the two universities I've attended, the B.S. in physics required more rigor and the B.A. offered more breadth and didn't require as many courses starting in "PHY". I'm guessing it's an American thing too.

That's antisocial behavior as we've all learned recently. If you don't eat the fake meat, you'll just spread your clear love for animal cruelty to those around you, even if that's just conjecture.

Anyway, snark aside, I'm curious how this goes because while I'm not apologetic for my place on the food chain, carbon emissions from animal farming are problematic and the price that real meat should cost if we raise them humanely is pretty exorbitant. It will be hilarious to see cattle rustling become a capital offense again.

Without being apologetic, it is still worthwhile to consider your responsibility as a moral agent for causing suffering; especially so when it is unnecessary.

I used to adore spicy food and about 4/5 Thai spicy was my jam. But sometime in my late-20s my body decided it didn't like it anymore and now if I so much as smell a pathetic jalapeño I have to run to the bathroom. I can eat a couple pickled peppers and get away with it but even "mild+" at whatever Asian establishment is too much.

It's really quite tragic.

I remember vividly when Flamin' Hot Cheetos came out (where I lived) and the ruckus they caused at my middle school. We inexplicably had vending machines full of junk food in the main lobby and kids would line up to empty the machines within minutes of lunch hour starting since, at the least, they only turned them on at lunch. They were eventually banned because some administrator discovered that kids were getting "high" from them, and replaced with regular Cheetos. Good job.

Toy Commander owned. Don't forget Crazy Taxi while we're getting nostalgic.

Yep it's 100% then. I lost my "entrepreneurial spirit" after being burned more than once by management that wanted me to work my ass off for just a salary and the promise of something nice someday.

Granted I got mine in the end of the last job like that, but it came through pure leverage and nobody's happy about it, myself included.
