He really didn't handle the explanation of the joke properly...

Do I understand it correctly? It loops back to the origin machine so they were seeing their own files? And they thought they were seeing the files on an external machine?

Nothing is mentioned about anyone actually trying to access the URI. I don't think their server would have used that filepath.

I imagine the plaintiff simply assumed it was legitimate without investigation, i.e. it was a successful troll.

I think they're planning to get the best of both worlds and capture a POV of the rescue.

He did expressly state "vibe and feeling."

Edit hurts the vibe but delete doesn't?

Wow, that's a 3-4 order of magnitude difference.

I think the main origin of the huge discrepancy is the definition of the “use” of a gun in self defense. The vast majority of these uses do not involve actually discharging the firearm, but merely indicating to an aspiring assailant that you are armed. A mugger pulls a knife, you pull aside your jacket to reveal the holstered pistol, he runs away. You do not inform the police (people stopped bothering in big cities decades ago), and it never becomes part of an official statistic.

I prefer token over name, otherwise I think it's decent.

Here's my crack at it for fun:

Exposure Notification apps are a privacy preserving technology to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

They don't collect or log any location data which is what makes them private.

Instead, a phone equipped with the app will continuously log and broadcast random tokens that change every 15 minutes.

Nearby phones with the app will take note of the token and the signal strength, while broadcasting a token of their own.

Each day the app downloads a public list of tokens that have been shared by people who have tested positive for COVID-19.

If your phone has been around a number of these tokens, it will notify you to get tested and self-isolate.

If you test positive for COVID-19 yourself, your doctor will give you a key to enter into the app. Entering the key will upload your tokens to the public list.

While exposure notification apps do preserve privacy, they are limited in effectiveness without widespread adoption. Additionally they are not a suitable replacement for traditional contact tracing.

Rest in peace Terry.

I assumed this would be an append-only/timelock backup solution for ransomware.

It's a bit controversial to call moka pots espresso makers, tho I do adore them and their coffee.

FWIW the iPhone 5s from Fall 2013 is still receiving regular security updates.

Planned obsolescence goes beyond whether phone software gets updated or not. It covers changing designs so that you can tell one generation from another, so that there is social pressure to upgrade despite the phone working fine.
