I don't know what the consensus among experts is because I'm definitely not one of them. However, the Podesta email scandal/hack/case take-away for me was that... if the most expensive, modern digitally-aware campaign ever made did not bother to use GnuPG for emails, it means that it is pretty much a dead-in-the-water tech.
