I suppose there's a need for "Internet literacy" (or "Google literacy"). One rule I instinctively follow is, if I find some claim surprising, e.g. "there was more X under president Y, than president Z", I will search for something like "X USA graph", look for a source I recognise (and hence know the credibility and biases of), and see if the data supports either or neither of those alternatives.

I will specifically not search for "X president Y" or "X president Z" because that will be priming the algorithm to confirm my biases.
