Haven’t previous presidents and candidates met and talked with some of these cos about how to use social media to improve their campaigns and outreach. Not that we know what was discussed. But I’m not sure this is news unless I’m missing something

Fb is going to have to lobby every government hard, they're rolling out their own centralized currency.

Even if you think this is bad, just consider that its a race now between the US and China on a global crytocurrency. I sure do not want China winning that race.

From the author:

It's unclear why Facebook and the White House didn't admit Zuckerberg, Trump and Peter Thiel had this dinner until we found out separately and asked Facebook.

It's also unclear what the Facebook CEO, board member and president talked about.

The meeting was made public, which is why we're reading about it. I think it's obvious why people wouldn't go out of their way to say they had a meeting with trump.

Really? Out of all the totalitarian despots, cartel gangsters, and evil people this is who you think are the worst. This is the main problem in America right now, a hyper-polarization of political views. Not having empathy with people who have different political views is pretty worrysome.

While I can easily think of more detestable living people than them, I do think that they're reasonably detestable. But I think that based on their business actions -- it has nothing to do with their political views (Trump arguably excepted).

They went after him big time in the recent "hearings" which reminded me of the star chamber hearings from communist Russia. I think many business leaders at this point who may have been moderate or centrist/libertarian might be forced to allign with Trump just to keep away from the radical socialist left.

Yeah - Zuck should listen to team Warren, and only allow Democratic political ads on social media. Is it even a fair election without overt interference and collusion between big tech and the Democrats?

Trump and Warren aren't the only two candidates. Just because Warren might be worse for their business than Trump doesn't preclude someone else being better for it than both of them.

And personally, I'd prefer if they banned election campaign ads, and other election-related advertising, from all sides (including people who aren't part of either party), instead of subjectively approving only ads they consider sufficiently honest. They, and any other corporation (be it a sole proprietorship or a trillion-dollar monopoly behemoth), shouldn't be in the business of "curating the truth" for the public.

While in theory, a total ban on all political advertising seems fair, the only reason this is a burgeoning issue for the 2020 race is that old media guard (NYT, WaPo, CBS, NBC, ...) play second fiddle to democrat narratives and policies (even if unconsciously so). New media (Youtube, internet, etc.) cuts out the massive editorialization that the old guard is legendary for, and that does not work in favor of the democrats.

So no - this isn't some unbiased, conscientious objection to fake news/propaganda from the left, this is their move to retain control over media narratives, and I do not trust them or the mega-corps they deem kosher (new wave of internet companies) to act fairly. Like with most things in life, it is the individual's responsibility to dig deeper for the truth.
