Nope .NET is still slower than molasses in comparison to most JVM implementations.

.net core is generally faster than java at this point.

.net core is old now as if this last month. Now it’s just .Net 5, which is faster still.

Ah yes I missed the announcement. Thanks! They say VS 16.8 supports it (I have VS 16.8.2) but it doesn't offer .NET 5 projects only core and regular.
