Oregon Students No Longer Required to Demonstrate Writing or Math Proficiency (oregonlive.com)

If I read it right, the new law removes a requirement added in 2009.

The summary at https://olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2021R1/Downloads/Meas... is:

> Prohibits State Board of Education from requiring for high school diploma that student show proficiency in any academic content area if student successfully completed credit requirements. Applies to high school diplomas awarded on or after July 1, 2023.

Students are still required to have three credits of mathematics and four credits of English in order to graduate.

That's how it was when I graduated. What's the fuss?

Eh, the high school diploma has already slid into irrelevancy anyway. Yes, this sinks it further, but it is already well underwater.

Might as well save the paper?
