Even for repairs. I made much use of used server gear, bodge wires were commonly needed. HP particularly sucked with silly software disables.

One that pissed me off was an HP server with dual PSU. It would run with one in the system, or two; but if it had two they both had to be "functional." so when one failed (with a fan problem forex), this expensive server with redundant PSU shut itself down rather than yaknow, use that spare PSU it was perfectly happy doing. "Yes we have redundant power circuits.. no it doesn't actually help"

Sun gear didn't step on itself like that, at least. Their stuff would keep running even as the flames consumed the VRMs.
