I'll argue that finish was the truly artistic part; the foam trick had probably been done before to "make meat pop out".
It's a beautiful finish on film and survives the packing and unpacking and some rough motion. That's nothing to sneeze at. I'm sure someone with more experience could go into more detail, and would appreciate more education on it myself.
