I wonder if people realize that, to a large extent, cities are designed to exacerbate loneliness. Most people don't even form relationships unless forced to be in the same space and time by an external force, in school or work. As they get older, the emphasis on heavy parenting excludes other people from their lives. In the past, the church, the cafe, the market were meeting places, not anymore. As we are entering an era of remote-work we have to start building solutions to these problems. The industrial-era city-warehouse is not a good model for our times.
