Those are a precious few months, figuring out software can wait, maybe help them enjoy their remaining vision. If it was me I'd want to see as much of the sights of the world as I could while I am still physically able. Not everyone will have this mind set, but they may be regretful later if they don't.

I was going to say the same thing, but with deteriorating vision they may be already past the point of seeing meaningfully-clear view of the world.
