The skeptic in me says something else must have exploded in there. Can an LED panel actually do this?

The capacitors in an electronic device have the most explosive potential, but not enough to hurt people. Faulty electric could have started the explosion, but not explode itself. An gas leak is the best guess i have.

Yeah I've had caps explode on me before, but nothing that could possibly cause this kind of harm. I think you're possibly closer to the mark with a gas leak.

Seems unlikely. Possibly a lightning strike?
