This is a more recent phenomenon - I would say the last 10 years or so - money became cheap, tech saw an infusion of billions of dollars. I would also say "tech folk" are the biggest beneficiaries of this largesse. My friends who are lawyers and doctors, not so much, they bust their ass for a lot longer and for a lot less. I agree with you though - there is a malaise in society, folks in power don't even get a slap on the wrist, working hard and being sincere does not get you anywhere, deceit and fraud are the currency of our times.
