Ask HN: How do you use Nreal Air glasses with Linux?
3 points by danielEM on Dec 9, 2022 | hide | past | favorite | 4 comments
For me glasses works, they appear as single display 1920x1080 but that is about it. No access to sensors nor stereo mode available. Would be happy even if was able to move 2D virtual screen with my head movement. But w/o access to sensors it makes no sense to me to use these glasses.

So how do you use it?

Does it even have sensors? None of the reviews I saw mentioned that, it seemed like a passive DisplayPort device.

I don't really know at all, but according to the website [0] it does have "Accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, proximity sensor", which produces "3DoF head tracking".

The "light" model also has cv cameras.

I think those are used internally and automatically to stabilize the image. I saw reviews of people using it with the SteamDeck and other handhelds, and they didn’t mention drivers or any constraints.

Using it with Linux didn't notice any image stabilization. The purpose of these sensors is in my opinion to provide AR experience
