If only our jobs were not so specialized and all consuming we could have better balance of the physical, social, and technical skills we desire. I like to tell this story which immediately gets a rise out of people. One of the things the [name revealed at end] did that I liked was to require everybody in the country to do some manual labor. Scientists, bureaucrats, doctors and the like were all required to be outside for a few hours a day doing manual labor alongside others from various backgrounds. This not only made a physically healthy population but improved society. The government that did this was the Nazis. Of course much of what they did was horrible, but I think this great experiment was lost in history due to the branding.
