Interestingly, the example glyph provided in the original proposal for the mushroom emoji doesn't include any of those visual features. It's colorless, of course, but it also doesn't include any of those big dots.
The whole fly amanita style is just a matter of fontmakers' convention. I didn't know the Unicode consortium considered that kind of thing its problem, but I guess it makes sense since it's (more or less?) comprised of all the big emoji font makers.
