I am not a scientist, but I had a few Stats and Econometrics courses - Granger causality was used fairly often. Someone who studied Philosophy would probably say the same about Downward causation, even though I haven't heard of it before. I doubt scientists knows all jargons from all fields, but if it's from a field close to their own then they probably do.
