All problems I know of (and there are quite a few!) revolve around availability, not security. All problems you do write about after this are indeed related to availability, but then you shouldn't call them "security theater".

The argument is that service providers will not accept the reduced availability and so will deviate from the pure passkey way into some patchwork of security theater.
