You might check out RedPhone and TextSecure (I'm one of the developers). They're in the Play Store and on GitHub.

How do you get a free month? This looks like it'd be fun to play around with.

Edit: Somehow didn't see the giant "subscribe now and receive a free 30-day subscription" on the homepage.
