I've never noticed the "a" was missing until now, but I've intuitively always pronounced it as one word, like "coda-cademy"

This is because CodeAcademy (with the a) already existed (using the domain codeacademy.org). They changed their name to "The Starter League" in Sept 2012 [1].

I think that they intentionally changed the logo to emphasize the C since so many people pronounced it incorrectly.

this is not new! our name has always been codecademy.

That's so funny - just like @joshdance said, I always read it as "Codeacademy". At least you have both URLs. I'd love to see a blog post one day that explains why you've chosen this name vs. that name. Co-decademy is a meaningless word to me (that's how I read it - "co" as in "codependence") whereas Code Academy makes 100% sense to developers.
